Football club BATE was founded in 1973 and won the BSSR championship and cup, but after eleven years of history the team was dissolved. In 1996 BATE came alive again and returned to the top division in a very short periond of time. After the team returned it won the silver medals and in 1999 won the championship. Starting from 2006 untill 2018 the «yellow-blues» won the league from year to year. Moreover in 2008 BATE became the first Belarusian club to qualify to the group stage of Europes elite tournament – the UEFA Championhs League. In the next ten seasons (2009-2018) BATE missed the group stage of one of two European club tournaments only twice and in seasons 2010/2011, 2012/2013, 2018/2019 reached the last 32 of the UEFA Europa League.
